Editor, Sulagna Chattopadhyay spoke with Dr. Kalyan Banerjee, a renowned practitioner of homeopathy based in New Delhi about how swine flu can be prevented. He has cured countless patients suffering from simple to complicated illness in the span of near 45 years of practice.
Dr. Banerjee has been awarded the Padma Shree, one of India’s highest civilian honour, in 2009 for distinguished service in the field of medicine.
Currently the nation has come under the grips of an epidemic, swine flu, that has managed to claim many thousand lives all over the country. Dr. Banerjee not only claims a near 100 per cent cure but also stands by the efficacy of their preventive drug. Strangely, the AYUSH , the government body setup to promote alternate medicine in the country is not willing to accept and promote the usage of these alternate drugs.
How can we avoid contracting Swine flu?
The risk of contracting swine flu can be significantly reduced by:
- Avoiding crowds, particularly in a closed and confined space.
- Maintaining a distance from people who appear to have respiratory symptoms like a cough, cold and sneezing episodes. For droplet infection the recommended distance is 6 feet.
- Washing hands before eating or drinking anything and after touching surfaces used by public at large.
- Leading a healthy, disciplined life – with a fixed and early bed time. This boosts natural immunity and wards off several infections.
- Any patients presenting with symptoms of cough, cold and fever should seek medical treatment under the guidance of a doctor.
What is its rate of recovery on a person administered homeopathic drugs?
We lack the resources for an accurate estimate of the recovery rate of patients treated in my Clinic. A conservative estimate would put the recovery rate of our treatment protocol for swine flu well over 95 per cent. This rate appears to rise when the treatment is started within the first two days of symptoms.
How many cases of swineflu have you come across in the recent past? Has the number increased this year?
By a rough estimate one in ten cases of swine flu in Delhi have been treated in my Clinic. We also treat a large number of patients using our telemedicine modes – on the phone and using the internet.
In addition the vast majority of patients presenting with symptoms of the flu respond within 48 hours of treatment and do not require testing. So, the actual number of cases treated is much higher.
How are the homeopathic physicians documenting swineflu cases around the city – are there any shared resources?
My practice makes all prescriptions available to all patients and doctors. We follow up treatment outcomes with patients that return and are also prescribing replicable regimens for recovery of residual symptoms after infection depending on the severity of the illness.
We have been contacted by several homeopaths and allopathic doctors in Delhi, different parts of the country and from several different countries. We have provided detailed information on the treatment regimen being used at the Clinic and also specific protocols for treatment of acute respiratory distress and organ failure in serious cases.
Dr. Banerjee, you have been awarded Padma Shree for your exemplary achievements in the service of homeopathy. Don’t you think AYUSH should have mandated your successful line of treatment for wider dissemination?
The Clinic has been prescribing Eupatorium Perfoliatum 30 as a prophylactic for swine flu for its patients since this outbreak and during previous outbreaks. An average of 600 prescriptions of this medicine is issued every day during these outbreaks.
Although, we lack the resources for aggressive follow up, we have yet to receive confirmation of any case of confirmed swine flu from those who have taken the prophylactic. This is significant.
We hope that the Ministry of Health will understand the significant positive impact of the dissemination of our treatment protocols for swine flu and other serious illnesses and assist us in the process of development, research and dissemination.
