In March 2018, the Supreme Court of India in a landmark judgement passed an
order legitimizing passive euthanasia through a living will in India. The SC also
mandated guidelines for the living will of patients, including guidelines for who
would execute the will. However, if passive euthanasia by withholding medical
treatment is legalized, the courts must engage medical practitioners to also look at
providing terminally ill patients a painless way of passing on.
