Close to 15,000 candidates applied for 8 vacancies for the post of a peon in Haryana.
What’s more disturbing is that Ph.d holders, postgraduates, and graduates were
among the applicants for a job that required a matric degree. A recently concluded
survey found out that close to 93% of Indian engineering graduates and 93% of
management graduates (excluding IIMs) did not possess necessary skills for
employment. There is also a huge job-skill gap among masons, mechanics, plumbers,
and carpenters. A closer look into the education system is needed to provide a better
quality workforce in the future.
