- During the week two western disturbances moved through the Western Himalayan Region - the first one caused Scattered rain & snow over Jammu & Kashmir between 0830 hours IST of 31st January and 0830 hours IST of 02nd February and the second one caused isolated rain & snow over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between 0830 hours IST of 05th February and 0830 hours IST of 07th February 2018.
- Last week’s upper air cyclonic circulation over East Bihar & adjoining Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, laid over east Bangladesh & neighbouring areas on 1st .& 2nd & 3rd February and became less marked on 4th and caused scattered light rain over Arunachal Pradesh on most of the days of the week and isolated rain over Assam & Meghalaya and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on many days of the week.
- Last week’s trough of low at mean sea level over Maldives & neighbouring areas, ran from Maldives area to Lakshadweep area and from Maldives area to East-central Arabian Sea off Coastal Karnataka and caused scattered rain over Kerala and Lakshadweep. Isolated rain occurred over Tamil Nadu & Puducherry and very light rain occurred over Saurashtra & Kutch between 0830 hours of 06th and 0830 hours IST of 07th February.

- A trough of low at mean sea level lying over Nicobar Islands & neighbouring areas caused isolated rainfall over Andaman & Nicobar Islands on most of the days of the week.

- During the week lowest minimum temperature of 2.3°C was recorded on 07th February 2018 at Adampur (Punjab) in the plains of the country.
The cumulative rainfall Sub-Division wise for the week (01-07 February 2018) predicted by IMD GFS model shows that Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Tamilnadu & Puducherry, South Interior Karnataka & Lakshadweep would receive excess rainfall, and Gujarat, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Kerala would receive normal rainfall, whereas Andaman & Nicobar Islands have in fact received excess rainfall and Kerala has received normal rainfall. Excess rainfall was predicted for the five Sub-divisions Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry; South Interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep. Out of these five Sub-Divisions only Tamil Nadu & Puducherry received largely Deficient rainfall and the other four Sub-Divisions have not received any rainfall. Out of four Sub-Divisions where normal rainfall was predicted only Andaman & Nicobar Islands received excess rainfall; Kerala received normal rainfall and Saurashtra, Kutch & Diu received largely deficient rainfall. Overall Model has predicted well for 22 out of 36 Sub-Divisions of the country.
During the week, rainfall over the country as a whole was 85 per cent below the long period average (LPA). Only Andaman & Nicobar Islands received excess rainfall and Kerala received normal rainfall; Arunachal Pradesh and Lakshadweep received deficient rainfall. All the other Sub-divisions either received largely deficient / no rainfall. Details of rainfall distribution over the four broad homogeneous regions of India are given below:
For the country as a whole, cumulative rainfall was (-85 per cent) of LPA as on 07th February 2018. Cumulative rainfall was deficient over the Southern Peninsula. Rainfall was excessive over Andaman & Nicobar Islands; deficient over Arunachal Pradesh and Lakshadweep. The other Sub-divisions received largely deficient / no rainfall as represented by over the rest of the Sub-divisions of the country. Rainfall activity will be above normal over some of the Sub-Divisions of Central, East India & Peninsula and below normal rainfall activity over Western Himalayan Region.
Rainfall activity will be above normal over Western Himalayan Region. It will be normal over Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Heavy rain/snow will occur at isolated places over Western Himalayan Region.
