Excess Rainfall over Northeast India

During the week (01-07 March 2018) deficient / largely deficient rainfall occurred over most of the Sub-Divisions of the country except Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim received excess rainfall. The Southern peninsula and Central India received very less rainfall.
Remnant of western disturbances (WD) which moved through the Himalayan Region moved eastwards and caused rain at many places over Arunachal Pradesh with heavy rain at one/two places between 0830 hours IST of 5th and 0830 hours IST of 7th March; at a few places over Assam & Meghalaya on most of the days of the week and isolated rainfall over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura on few days of the week.
Last week’s western disturbance and a fresh western disturbance passed through the western Himalayan Region and caused scattered rain/snow on most of the days over Jammu & Kashmir, on few days of the week over Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand. Isolated light rain also occurred over the plains of northwest India on one/two days of the week.
MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE & HEAT WAVE Heat wave conditions were prevailed over coastal Saurashtra on 01st March 2018. During the week lowest minimum temperature of 8.0°C was recorded on 6th March 2018 at Adampur (Punjab) in the plains of the country. During the week the highest maximum temperature of 43.0°C was recorded on 3rd March 2018 at Nandurbar (Madhya Maharashtra) in the plains of the country.
The cumulative rainfall sub-division wise for the week (01-07 march 2018) predicted by IMD GFS model shows that excess rainfall would occur over Andaman & Nicobar islands, Jammu & Kashmir and west Rajasthan; normal rainfall would occur over Himachal Pradesh, east Rajasthan, Gujarat state, Konkan & Goa and Andaman & Nicobar islands; deficient rainfall would occur over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Tami Nadu & Puducherry; largely deficient/no rainfall would occur over the rest of the sub-divisions of the country. In actuality excess rainfall occurred over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim where it was predicted that deficient rainfall would occur. Excess rainfall was predicted for the sub-division of Jammu & Kashmir but received deficient rainfall and west Rajasthan received largely deficient rainfall. The normal predicted sub-divisions which have not received rainfall are Gujarat state, Konkan & Goa and Andaman & Nicobar islands. Overall model has predicted well for 18 out of 36 sub-divisions of the country.
This is the first week of the pre-monsoon season. Therefore, weekly and seasonal rainfall will be same (01-07 March 2018).
During the week, rainfall over the country as a whole was 30 per cent below the long period average (LPA).
