Weekly Weather Update (02-08 November 2017)

Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over Sri Lanka and adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal a low pressure area has formed over the same region on 2nd November 2017, over southwest Bay of Bengal & adjoining Sri Lanka & Tamil Nadu coast. On 3rd November, it was seen as a trough of low pressure at mean sea level over southwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal and off Tamil Nadu-south coastal Andhra Pradesh coasts on 4th, and over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast Tamil Nadu & Comorin area on 5th. The embedded cyclonic circulation over Gulf of Mannar & neighbouring areas on 4th & 5th became less marked on 6th.  Due to this system Heavy to very heavy rain at a few places with isolated extremely heavy rainfall occurred  over Coastal Tamil Nadu between 0830 hours IST of 2nd to 0830 hours IST of 3rd November 2017, causing flood type situation in some of the coastal districts of Tamil

Northeast Monsoon was vigorous/active over Tamli Nadu from 2nd to 7th November 2017. It was active over Kerala and Rayalaseema on one/two days of the week.

 Dense to very dense fog occurred over Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi Punjab & north Rajasthan on many days of the week. Dense fog occurred over Manipur, Tripura & West Uttar Pradesh on one/two days of the week.

Thunderstorm occurred at isolated places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, South Interior Karnataka and Lakshadweep on one/two days of the week.

Total rainfall (cm) occurred in Coastal Districts of Tamil Nadu & Puducherry during 2-8 November 2017 (≥7 cm)

During the week (02-08 November 2017)

Only Tamil Nadu & Puducherry, Rayalaseema and Kerala received excess/normal rainfall. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Coastal Karnataka and South Interior Karnataka have received deficient rainfall and Most of the Sub-Divisions of Northwest, Central, east & northeast India India have not received any rainfall.
During the week, rainfall over the country as a whole was 45% below the long period average (LPA). .South Peninsula received normal rainfall. Details of the rainfall distribution over the four broad homogeneous regions of India are given below:

Seasonal All India Country as a whole (1st October to 08TH November 2017): For the country as a whole, cumulative rainfall was nearly equal rainfall (-4 per cent) of LPA as on 08th November 2017. Cumulative rainfall was large deficient over Northwest India. Rainfall was excess/normal over the most of Sub-divisions East & Northeast India and South Peninsula and few Sub-divisions of Central India. Details of the rainfall distribution over the four broad homogeneous regions of India are given below:

Most of meteorological subdivisions of Northeast India & some of the Sub-divisions of East India are likely to get above normal rainfall and remaining regions of India to get below normal rainfall.
