Weekly Weather Update (21-27 September September2017)

On 20th September, a well marked low pressure area formed over central parts of Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh. Heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred over Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra and Chhattisgarh on the 20th due to the Interaction of Western Disturbance over northern Pakistan & neighbouring areas & Well Marked Low over Western Uttar Pradesh & neighbouring areas. Heavy to very heavy and also extremely heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places over Uttar Pradesh & Haryana on 22nd & 23rd September 2017. Source: IMD Most of the Sub-Divisions of India received deficient to large deficient rainfall and some subdivisions of Northwest & central India received excess rainfall.

 

During the week, rainfall over the country as a whole was 10 per cent below the long period average (LPA). Details of the rainfall distribution over the four broad homogeneous regions of India are given below:

For the country as a whole, cumulative rainfall was 5 per cent below LPA as on 27th September. East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have received deficient rainfall and Punjab has received marginal deficient rainfall due to less rainfall during the week and west Madhya Pradesh which was deficient rainfall has became normal due to excess rainfall during the week. (29Sep-05 Oct): The monsoon circulation associated with trough and low level cyclonic circulation will make the monsoon active over the eastern coastal region, southern peninsula, NE states and parts of East India. Above rainfall is expected over the NE states, most parts of South peninsula and parts of East India. The southwest monsoon will be withdrawn from some more parts northwest India, Gujarat state and north ArabianSea.. (06Oct-12 Oct): The rainfall will decrease mainly over the NE states. The central India and south peninsula will remain above normal. Northwest India will remain dry.
