Abstract: Heat stress in the workplace is becoming an increasingly urgent concern as climate change intensifies across South Asia. Beyond the visible impacts of extreme heatwaves, it is the silent, daily exposure to high temperatures that erodes the health, dignity, and economic security of India’s most vulnerable workers. This conversation explores the link between climate and class, the physiological toll of heat, gendered vulnerabilities, and emerging pathways for policy and adaptation. The dialogue builds on lived experience, scientific research, and traditional knowledge to understand how occupational heat stress is experienced, why it is growing, and what can be done to mitigate its effects in India’s diverse socio-economic context.
