Paradox in the Plate: Obesity in India

Obesity has significantly increased in rural and urban areas between the years 2005-06 and 2015-16 according to the NFHS 4. A view of a vegetable vendor in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh.

Abstract: Using the latest body mass index classifications for Asian Indians it is argued that obesity levels have been under reported. Coupled with the alarming threat that hunger poses to public health, households face a double burden of nutrition. The paper explores policy actions in healthcare, food and agriculture sectors.
